It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Owen Menzel on February 11th, 2022, after a long journey with progressive supranuclear palsy. His warm heart and kind smile were trumped only by his unassuming nature and genuine integrity. Owen is survived by his cherished wife of 28 years, Margaret, his children David (Sharon Clouse) and Brian, and their mother Lois Nield. A proud father figure to Jacob Manna, Paul and Yaliet Sagoo and adored grandfather to Blake, Allison, Henry, Michael, and Mia. Brother to William Ord Menzel (Debbie Carroll) and brother-in-law John Zawadski (Seliina Coe). Uncle to Kevin Menzel and Lisa Ashton. Special Godfather to Angus, Ross and Isabel Tyler of Long Beach, California. The youth that stole Owen’s heart; Julie and Alex Grant, Katarina Mayer, Colleen and Erin Hamilton. Born in Toronto, Owen spent his early education years in Pointe-Claire, and then earned his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, Trinity College. Motivated by hard work and a passion for his clients and team members, Owen had a rewarding career. He started his professional path at Clarkson-Gordon, eventually earning a Partnership at EY! After a long and varied career Owen retired as CFO at Arton Investments. The long-time former member of the National Club not only enjoyed his fine red wines but also every offer of an adventure. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, exploring villages in Cuba and Russia, discovering the beauty of Europe, running half-marathons and cycling. A master canoeist, Owen enjoyed his summers at the family’s beloved Pointe au Baril Island cottage. Giving back to the community was incredibly important to Owen. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader when his boys were young. Retired from work, Owen graciously volunteered at both The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and St. Joseph’s Health Centre. With an unwavering belief in the goodness in people, Owen saw the talent and abilities in others, leaving a legacy of making those around him better. What an experience to have known him; friend, mentor, supporter, loving gentleman and, of course, for Margaret and her friends the ultimate race Sherpa. We wish to acknowledge the extraordinary support we have received. We are grateful for our wonderful Grenview Blvd S. neighbours, the sisters of Sunnylea and caregivers Karen and Almaaz. Heartfelt thanks to our many friends that reached out during Owen’s illness. There will be a Celebration of Life scheduled at a later date. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
