What an amazing teacher!! Mr. Downey was my first theatre teacher when I attended Mimico high school for grade 12 and 13. He was a very charismatic and caring individual. I always had an interest in theatre and it was his mentoring that helped me get into Sheridan College for musical theatre!! He helped me with my monologues and pieces I used for my auditions. His enthusiasm brightened your day. It’s teachers like this set the example! Thank you Mr. Downey again for being you and for your guidance. RIP Jim.

Mr Downey was a much loved English and Theatre Arts teacher at Mimico High School in the 1970s. He directed many stage productions that I was privileged to take part in. He gave us drama nerds a safe place to be ourselves and a true sense of community. When my daughters were at Etobicoke School of the Arts in the 1990s, he was the librarian there and we reconnected. My condolences to his family and friends. His warmth and wit will be missed.

My condolences to Mr. Downey's family. I had Mr. Downey for Grade 9 English at MHS in the 70s. Mr. Downey made a significant, lasting impression on me when he had our class read Anne Frank's diary. I was forever changed after reading that book, like many I'm sure, and even visited and walked through her room on the Prinsengracht in later years. A wonderful teacher that I've always remembered for that.

Jim Downey was my dramatic arts teacher at Lakeshore Collegiate Institute. His guidance helped me develop the characters I use in my business life today. He also taught me to juggle, which I ironically also use in my daily life. Mr. Downey left a very positive impression on an impressionable version of me. My condolences to his family & friends.

Jim Downey was my drama teacher at Lakeshore Collegiate Institute and was my inspiration to pursue theatre and go on to study at Sheridan College. Since then I’ve continued my passion for the arts in filmmaking. None of it would have been possible without his gentle guidance, support and patience. My deepest condolences to friends, family and all those who helped change the course of their lives. RIP Mr Downey.

I had been searching for Mr. Downey, my former Mimico High School Drama Teacher, on the internet for a while now, hoping to be able to thank him for having such a huge impact on me. He opened up the world of Theatre Arts to me and for that I will be forever grateful. I shared the sad news of his passing in several of my Mimico Alumni Facebook pages and there was an outpouring of heartfelt condolences. Seemed he left many of his students with positive memories. RIP, sir.
Deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
