Obituary of Ron Neal

Ron Neal – September 3, 1929 – February 14, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Neal, aged 95. Ron passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, with his devoted wife Muriel by his side. They shared 68 years of love and partnership, and in Ron’s final months, Muriel’s tireless care and unwavering devotion were a true reflection of their deep bond.

Ron’s life journey began in Hyde, Cheshire, England on September 3, 1929. He served 2 years in Athens, Greece, when he joined the British Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC) in 1947. Ron married Muriel Mason in 1957 and then emigrated to Canada that same year. Ron worked for the University of Toronto’s printing press until retirement, where his commitment and character earned him the respect of everyone he worked with. He also took great pride in serving as president of the West Acres Club in Etobicoke, strengthening ties within his community.

Ron had a wide range of passions, including dancing, cross-country skiing, and gardening, but it was his family that brought him the greatest joy. Above all, he was proud of the family he and Muriel built together, and the love and legacy he leaves behind will forever be cherished.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Muriel; his daughters Cathy Schofield (Dave) and Christine Merrill (Frank); grandchildren James (Kaye), Jenn, Jeff (Emily), Justin, Emily (Swapnil) and Jacqueline; and great-grandchildren Kaiden and Skylee and numerous friends and family overseas.

A memorial service will be held in the spring, with details to be announced by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Ron’s memory be made to Northumberland Hills Hospital at https://nhhfoundation.ca/donate; or to the Northumberland Hills Humane Society at https://northumberlandhs.com/donate/

Ron’s story telling, his warmth, humour, and love he shared with his family will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed.

Your silver wings shine in the sunlight.

‘Till we meet again.
