Obituary of Augusto Tadeu Pereira Bastos
Augusto, known by many as Tadeu, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, in Toronto.
He lived a full life. He was born in the beautiful city of Benguela, Angola, where he spent his youth until he left for Portugal in his late teens to pursue higher education. This journey took him to Sweden, the US and France while he pursued a masters’ degree in Economic History and subsequently, a PhD in Aviation Transport Economy in Aix-en-Provence. Like many Angolans of his generation, he joined the MPLA during the liberation movement. He later settled in Sweden and was a Lecturer at the University of Upsala. He returned to Angola in 1974 and occupied several high positions in academia and public service. He was a History Professor at the University of Lubango, Director of TAAG, and the Angolan Aviation Agency. He loved Angola deeply and had fond memories of time spent with his siblings, Mita, Edmundo, Jeco and Lila. Later in life, he settled in Canada where he worked for Dan Heap, a Canadian Politician, as a Constituency Officer. However, his enduring love for his native country, Angola, never left him leading him to be one of the founding members of the Angolan Community of Ontario (ACO) as the organization was known. He leaves behind his biological children Ndongo, Yuri, Kim, Yara, and adopted children Anna Karina and Vanessa. He will be missed by friends and loved ones.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday April 4, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Parish, 706 Old Weston Road, Toronto, Ontario. The family would love to see your condolences and memories of Tadeu made on this website
May God receive him with HIS infinite love. Rest In Peace Augusto.
