Obituary of Gregory Herringer

Gregory Louis Herringer
Peacefully at Harmony Hills Community, Gregory Louis Herringer passed away on April 19, 2025 at the age of 89.

Born on May 1, 1935, in Waterloo, Ontario, to Claribel (Schmuck) and Jerome Herringer, he was predeceased by his brothers Edward and Gerald. Gregory remembered an adventurous childhood with his brothers, cousins and neighbours on Alexandra Street in Waterloo, playing in the woods and building and racing go-karts.

After graduating from high school, Gregory began his career as an apprentice draftsman at General Electric in Guelph, drafting power transformers. He remained with the plant through its many iterations, working with dedication and skill until his retirement.

Gregory lived life with curiosity and enthusiasm. He was an avid fisherman and lake cartographer for the Ontario Fishing Guide series of books. Gregory loved cars from an early age and owned multiple sports cars throughout his life. In the 1980s, Gregory began Latin and ballroom dance lessons, and his skill and charm took him literally around the world as a cruise ship dance host in his retirement. In later life, Gregory was an avid racer, running then walking marathons and 10 km races and proudly displaying his medals in his home.

He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Anne Herringer of Toronto, who fondly remembers time spent with her Dad singing along with the radio and sitting on a quiet lake in dawn light, and her Dad’s openness and sense of wonder.

Gregory did not wish to have a formal funeral and has been cremated. His ashes will be spread in places he loved.
