Obituary of Henry Victor Huhtanen
Henry Victor Huhtanen
September 20, 1928 – October 15, 2025
Henry (aka Heikki, Hank) was full of life and vibrant, living life to the absolute fullest for 97 years. He always had a twinkle in his eye, a warm word for everyone and thoroughly enjoyed meeting people. He would do anything for anyone – no questions asked.
Although his early occupation was as a linotype operator in the printing business, his real joy was working in the theatre, ultimately managing the theatre and cultural centre in Georgetown. His love of theatre developed at an early age, acting and working in the Finnish community and continued as a founding member of amateur theatre groups. He was particularly proud of the many awards he received for acting and directing.
However, more than anything else, he enjoyed his time at the family cottage and sauna on the island at Clear Lake.
Henry passed away somewhat suddenly but peacefully on October 15th, surrounded by family. He was lively and energetic to the end, having enjoyed Thanksgiving weekend at the cottage.
Henry was predeceased in 2012 by Vieno, his beloved wife of more than 60 years. He was much loved by his children, Wayne and Maxine, Dayle and Chris, and Jayne and Don; his grandchildren, Michelle, Andrew and Craig, Katy and Jen, Dani and Dave, Andy, Jilli, William, and Brendan; and by his great grandson, Aiden, to whom he was proudly Iso Pappa.
Henry is also survived by his sister, Helvi, and brother, Harold, and his extended family of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Hilda and Väinö, his brother, Hans, and his sister, Helga.
Cremation and a private family service have taken place with a celebration of life to follow. Memorial donations may be made to Suomi-Koti at www.suomikoti.ca/donate.
