Obituary of Thomas Anthony Joseph Briand

Thomas (Tom) Anthony Briand died on June 5, 2026, in Toronto at the age of 74, with his beloved sister Jean by his side. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Tom was the loving son of Frank and Frances Briand.

He spent his entire 46‑year career with ChemTrade and its predecessor companies, beginning at CIL in 1974 and retiring as Corporate Credit Manager. His dedication to his work, his mentorship of colleagues, his commitment to company values, and his infectious personality left a lasting impression on everyone who worked with him.

He was known for his outgoing, joyful spirit and his endless generosity. Tom was a loving uncle to Brian and Angela Garvey (David Deo), Anna, Jill (Tristan Roddick), Adam, and John Briand. He also leaves behind several great‑nieces and great‑nephews: Autumn and Nolan Garvey, Robin Deo, and Phin and Rory Roddick.

He is survived by his brother Michael and his sister Jean (Bill Garvey). Tom loved his family, his many friends, and his workmates. He was an avid traveler who visited so many countries over the years it was hard to keep track. He always wore a smile and carried an unmistakable joy in his heart. He will be deeply missed.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto for their extraordinary care. Cremation has taken place. A gathering to honour his life will be held at a later date.
