Different Ways to Personalize an Obituary

There are times when it's difficult to distill a heartfelt tribute to a lost family member into just one paragraph. When it comes to writing obituaries, most people have a difficult time, while others simply disregard it. Writing an obituary is a good way to deal with the grief you feel after losing a loved one.

How To Write A Personal Obituary

The CremationCare Centre offers some simple suggestions for personalizing an obituary for a loved one:

  • Examine The Personality Of The Deceased - Obituaries can be made more personal by including information on the deceased's personality, interests, and appearance. For example, if the deceased had a funny bone, you may mention that in your obituary.
  • Make Sure You Pay Attention To The Tiniest Of Details - You can learn a lot about a person by paying attention to the tiniest details, and this is truer than anything else. If you want to get a better sense of an individual's distinctiveness, look beyond their successes. This can help people better understand the life and character of the deceased.
  • Make A Case For Why They Are Special To You - Talk about how the person has influenced your life. Be sure to keep track of any interesting conversations that take place and include a list of them. The obituary becomes much more personal if you incorporate personal experiences and stories.
  • Satire Can Be A Useful Tool - Many people assume that satire is inappropriate for such a solemn occasion, but that isn't always the case. If the deceased had a dark sense of humour, it might be a good idea to include this aspect in the obituary.
