Obituary of Ortraud Scherer

Ortraud “Schatzi“ Scherer (nee Röhl) born in Schwerin an der Warthe, Germany (May 26, 1939 –
December 8, 2019) at the age of 80, passed peacefully at home in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on the
morning of December 8, 2019. Ortraud was predeceased by her parents, Herbert Röhl, Charlotte Koch,
her brother Erhard Röhl and her husband Alfred Emil Scherer.

Survived by her brother Hartmut Koch (in Germany) and her sons, Mark Scherer, Ralph Scherer, Alfred Scherer, Oliver Scherer and grandchildren Ryan Scherer, Ahlana Scherer, Adelaide Scherer, Sebastian Scherer and Tristan Scherer.

She battled pancreatic cancer courageously right to the end. Thank you to her palliative care team, Dr.
Jessica Roy and primary nurses; Tylease, Karen and Vladimir.

As an opera lover, Ortraud was a long-time member of the Canadian Opera Company, Sarasota Opera
Company and attended many opera houses around the world.

Ortraud is also known for her love of sailing, mugwumping, sunrises and sunsets and the care of
children.

She will be missed by many.
