Obituary of Sheldon Lee McRury
Sheldon age 63 passed away February 9, 2020 in the palliative care unit of the Toronto Grace Health Centre.
Born in Glace Bay Nova Scotia on July 27, 1956, Sheldon was the oldest child of the late John (Rusty) and Juanita (Nita) McRury.
Sheldon moved from Glace Bay as a young man and lived in the NWT and Alberta before eventually settling in Ontario where he lived in the Toronto neighborhood of Parkdale for more than 30 years. Sheldon still considered himself a Cape Bretoner and proudly displayed his Cape Breton flag in his home. Most of Sheldon's working years were spent in construction. He enjoyed working outdoors and on large high rise buildings.
Sheldon found joy in the simple things - a good meal, music and the company of animals. Sheldon was best known for his love of music and animals. Most significantly the blues and cats. His most prized possession was his extensive CD collection which meant everything to him. Even in his last days we were reminded to keep the CD's in their proper cases. Sheldon was a voracious reader and made great use of his library card. Sheldon was kind to all ''critters''. He would regularly feed the birds and squirrels in addition to neighborhood stray cats.
Sheldon is survived by his siblings; Robert, Darlene, Peter, Sharon (Carroll) and Sheila; nieces Katey and Sydney, his Aunt Sharon (Stevenson) and uncle Dick (Ford).
Also left to mourn Sheldon's passing is his close friend and guardian angel Lois (Wilson).
In addition to his parents Sheldon was predeceased by his aunt Sheila (Ford) and uncle Freddie (MacKenzie).
As per Sheldon's wishes cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Interment will take place at a future date in Cape Breton.
