Obituary of Boyd John Overmire

Boyd John Overmire passed peacefully surrounded by family on February 19, 2020. Boyd was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on December 2, 1965 and later moved to Traverse City where he grew his family. He leaves behind his children, Rachael (Ron) Lata, Nathan Overmire, and Carly Overmire; his father, John Overmire; and his siblings, Michelle (Moose) Kalaska and Kristine (Sajeeb) Wazed. In his short 54 years, Boyd left behind countless memories with those he loved. From his quirky humor and aloof attitude, to his passion for family and faith, he leaves behind much more than a simple name. Boyd was a long standing member of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters Union, an avid traveler, fisherman and outdoorsman. He had many passions and spent most of his fatherhood teaching his kids these same passions. He spent two weeks every summer at the Red Pine Lodge in Canada fishing with his father, John and son, Nathan. Boyd coached his children’s softball and baseball games for many years as they grew up. The legacy he leaves behind is his reputation for being kind, giving, and caring in the most humble of ways. He worked hard and touched countless lives. His greatest accomplishments include, but are not limited to, his crown as “Monopoly King” (has he ever lost a game?), his distinguished “dad” humor, and his memorization and recitation (out of tune) of every hit 80’s song he “listened to in highschool.” He truly will be missed. Visitation for Boyd will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Williamsburg on Friday, March 13, 2020 beginning at 9 a.m., followed by Mass at 11 a.m., and a luncheon.
