Doreen was a very nice lady. That would have been my childhood description of her. My cousin, Frank Macdonald married a real lady, Doreen Mathers, when I was little. Our families visited back and forth for a number of years.
I think our first meeting happened when Frank brought his new fiancee to meet his uncle, my father. I was 3. I found Doreen's purse while having my afternoon "nap," Her book of stamps was too much temptation for me. I licked and stuck all of them onto a chair and a dresser. Stamps had important monetary value in those days!
At a family gathering in the 90's Doreen reminded me of the incident. Apparently it had stood out in both of our minds for 40 years.
I always appreciated the fact that Doreen made the trip to Saskatchewan numerous times long after Frank had died to participate in Binnie family events. One more example of her generous heart.
Thank you to Jock for the wonderfully thorough tribute to his mother on this site. We are glad to know your mother better!
