Dave and I worked in the tech world together, always as competitors but always as friends. He was the kind of guy who would come into my head and I had this instinct to immediately reach out to him before the thought passed. We always connected.
He was incredibly smart, a first class sales leader and had a deep love for his family. His family likely did not know that Dave and I had this type of relationship but I suspect that you are going to hear from more people that Dave had this effect on.
We shared a passion for guitars but I did not know about his involvement in Guitars for Kids however I would love to become involved if that is possible.

Dear Doris, Nicole and Robert,
We are still processing this sad news. We have so many great memories of Dave for the past 40 years.
Windsurfing at Turkey Point with fresh caught perch for dinner, Jazz Festivals in Montreal & Saratoga, the Chicago Blues Festival (Jello shots!) and many fun parties.
If Dave knew the type of music or jazz artist you wanted all he had to do was walk up to his wall of albums, gently pull out an album and it would be one of the best tunes you've ever heard!
Dave influenced and inspired so many people with his kindness, sense of humour and zest for living.
We had a Big Green Egg BBQ dinner in honour of Dave and toasted his well-lived life. It was a privilege to know him and we're pleased to have donated to Guitars for Kids.
Love to all,

I had the honour of working with Dave for many years. He was a great and unique sales leader - great because he was very successful - unique because he helped change people's minds about how successful they could be.
He used humour as a tool to inspire and motivate.
He played a mean harmonica which I had the pleasure of experiencing first hand in company bands. This was so much fun!
Thanks Dave - for the work and for the fun.

The first time I met Dave in Tokyo, i was nervous and he had this imposing figure of authority and strong personality. I thought I failed my interview!!!
I was surprised I got the job and worked for Dave and got introduced to the amazing team he built at Autodesk. Working for Dave was one of the highlights of my career and the amazing manager and friend he was made working so much of a pleasure. As I helped him build the team in Asia Pacific, he was a great mentor and friend.
Then I got to know that Dave was not only an amazing manager and friend, he was an amazing musician.
Dave will be missed, but all those whom he touched will remember him forever. Thank you Dave.

Dave was a new and successful sales leader at Honeywell when I started my career right out of university - As Jim said, that can be intimidating, but he made it seem all so exciting and a trip that I wanted to ride too!!! He inspired many of us on the NSTP team - dozens of us. I had the opportunity to observe, learn and share Dave's philosophy on life! Many I took to heart and a few that I then passed on as well. He touched so many of our lives without even knowing it - how amazing to have that special gift. Thank you Dave. You are on to a new adventure, but sorry you had to leave us so soon. Debbie Wolfenden

It was with the deepest level of sadness that I learned about the passing of Dave. My sincerest condolences to Doris, Nicole and Robert.
Dave and I met fresh out of university where we were hired into the Honeywell National Sales Training Program. It soon became apparent that Dave was destined for a successful career in sales. He was savvy, hard-working and an organized team player.
More than anything, he was just one very good-natured guy. Always greeting you with that warm, genuine smile, he was a delight to be around.
Dave also had excellent taste in music, food and wine. He introduced me to the finest jazz music and was my harmonica mentor.
Whether it was playing feisty backgammon, attending Saratoga, Montreal or Chicago music fests, numerous Toronto parties or various epic Fish-o-Rama’s.... there was many a good time and lot’s of laughs over the last forty years.
Now and then someone comes along that is a born leader, a true diplomat and a contributor in many ways to all of those around him.
That was Dave Wharry.
Rest in Peace Dave. I will always remember you as "Up as a Pup!", a man of wonderful heart, attitude and humour.

I have some wonderful memories of Dave that go back more than 50 years. He was a virtuous kid - honest, kind, polite. Mama Isabel worried I might be a bad influence! Dave had a wonderful sense of humor and we laughed an awful lot. As we got older, music became the hub of our friendship. We saw less of each other through high school, but our relationship didn't seem to change. We then lost touch completely for 30 years. And picked it up effortlessly at our high school reunion! Dave reached out to me several times in recent years to get together, and I had to decline each time, for various reasons. I feel such painful regret that the time's run out. The shock of his passing has brought into focus the impact he had on my life. If only I could tell him ...
My heartfelt, deepest condolences to his beautiful family at this very sad time.

Dearest Doris,
We were so very sad to hear of Dave's passing. I remember the first time I really got to know Dave. We were at Elaine and Regan McGrath's joint Birthday party at Craigleith in Collingwood. The music was bopping and everyone started to dance. Dave walked over to me and asked me to dance. Boy did we have a blast. You could see that Dave had a real love for music and had no fear in ripping up the dance floor.
I also remember Dave cooking on the barbecue and selecting incredible wines for our bi-monthly girls bookclub. I had no idea anyone knew had to make seared tuna at home. It was the most incredible meal. Sending my love and condolences to you, Nicole and Robert.

Dave was the first boss I ever had at Honeywell Bull and his mentorship and patience was a model for any manager or for that matter, human being just being good to others. He introduced me to all sorts of food I never thought existed and many times wished it hadn't:) I was fortunate to work for Dave again at SGI where he was always supportive of my career goals and generous with his time and wisdom. Our frienship blossomed with Doris and Elaine and it was so wonderful to see Dave transition to retirement where he could dedicate more time to the many passions he had around cooking, music, philanthropy, and family. David was one of my stars in the National Sales Training Program at Honeywell Information Systems.. I knew he would do very well in the Sales and Marketing world as I watched him go through the 20 + weeks of training. The highlight of this long training program was the final 2 weeks of sales training at the End when we had had the video workshops.
The trainees had to make a call on the the late Martin Smith who played the customer. I was the camera man /script writer and would set up the different calls with Martin Smith. Martin was a tough nut to crack but David was cool and business like and held his own.
One last funny story was the October Beer Festival in Kitchener Ontario when David and the rest of the class got me into drinking what they “ called boiler makers” . How I got out of Kitchener and home was an interesting adventure. I was driving and my wife Mary-Ann was with me . However David was in the back seat with his girlfriend ( in better shape than me) . I should have made him drive.
Rest In Peace my friend and God willing I will see you in the next life.

Hello Doris and family;
I am just getting this news now, and the thought of losing Dave, is totally surreal, and right now, I can't process this at all.. We all worked together at SGI ( 10 best years of my career, in large part thanks to Dave's massive positive and full-of-life energy".
He was a band-mate with me in "Super Dave and the Slap-shots", and man,,, could he play that harmonica like a demi-God, sing, harmonize, and play guitar like it was "budda"!
We kept in touch post-SGI days, and I watched you all enjoy such a good quality of life, around his professional development, travels, Reno's, rib-fests, and finally the not-for-profit fundraiser he started.
I am shaken to the core, here.
Until we meet again, my friend.."Life is a hiway, and I'm gonna ride it all night long"! Thank you for helping me travel on such a smooth road.

Doris, Nicole and Robert & friends of the great Dave Wharry. I am deeply saddened to learn of Dave's passing and offer my heartfelt sympathies. I was fortunate to work alongside Dave at sgi. He never hesitated to bring opportunities and challenges my way to tackle. I learned a great deal in the process. I remember his stories about fishing. He encouraged us all to be a Wall-Eye as this fish was known to give fisherman a good fight. I remember travelling to sgi's reality centre in Mountainview, California where we arranged for Dave to host Minister Manley and demonstrate the technology before joining an economic development meeting with the Minister and Deputy Minister Lynch with local leaders and the trade commissioners in Silicon Valley. Dave was a consummate host for the dignitaries and for sgi. Another venture found Dave Wharry, Martin Pinard, Walter Stewart and myself flying from St. John, Newfoundland to a remote community in a plane that was as wide as a cigar tube. We were enroute to officially open an animation lab in Stephenville, Newfoundland with Premier Tobin. It was a pretty bumpy ride in the small plane and we landed on a gravel runway. Dave helped me off the plane. Our group waited in the empty air terminal (it was one small portable) until the weather passed. We walked to the College where Dave greeted each individual in the room for the big event with his big smile and big handshake. Like so many who got the opportunity to work with Dave -- I will miss his positive spirit. Tracy Holotuk
