Obituary of Lucy Moro

December 16, 1925 - March 21, 2021.

It is with immense sadness that the family of Lucy Moro (nee Peressutti)  announces her peaceful passing on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at the age of 95 at her home in Woodbridge.

The oldest of 4 children, Lucy was born in Italy in December of 1925. She moved to Canada in the 1950s to get married to Gino Moro (deceased) and started working at the Mountain Sanatorium (Chedoke McMaster Hospital) as a nurse where 1200 Inuit children were sent to recover from the tuberculosis pandemic.  She worked for over 25 years and brought joy and compassion to the lives of many patients within her care.

Lucy resembled the purest and strongest form of exuberance anyone has ever seen. Friends and family agree that Lucy had a joyous smile and powerful presence that could light up a room with her stories, compassion, laughter, and humor in any situation,“ No money, no funny”. Her zest for life continued well into her eighties with her 80th birthday trip to Vegas and her yearly trips to Acapulco with her friends Maria and Vanda. We are so grateful Lucy brought our family to Canada and opened the gate to our lives here and many years of amazing memories with her in Canada and beyond. Her wonderful energy, generosity, happiness, and cheer will always be remembered and will live on through us forever. Lucy left this world a better place, she was one of a kind and we will miss her so much.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Doris (Dave deceased),  dearly missed by her grandchildren, Nicole and Robert. She was predeceased by her parents Margarita and Pietro and the dearest mother-in-law of the late Dave Wharry.  She is survived by 3 siblings, John (Linda), Pierina (Menene), Mirella (Adriano deceased). Zia Lucia will be fondly remembered by nieces and nephews and their families in Italy, Mauro, Paolo, Rita, and in Canada by Michelle, Lorenzo, Paulo, Gabe, and Margareth. Last, but certainly not least, she will be fondly remembered by her many great friends and caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army and St Roch’s Catholic Church.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines, a limited capacity funeral mass will be held at St. Roch’s Catholic Church(2889 Islington Ave) on Saturday, April 10, 2021. (Attendance is full)
