To Walter and Elise, my sincerest condolences on the tragic loss of your dear wife and mother. Often the family doesn't know how their loved one was regarded or seen by their colleagues or co-workers. I worked with Melissa for at least 20 years at RSA Canada. She was incredibly committed to her work, well respected and most of all was dedicated to doing the right thing. No one could match her technical capability or knowledge in her space of expertise. What defined her was her work ethic and her commitment to standing by her principles no matter the challenge. I know you know her as a dedicated wife and mother. But she was also a committed professional with deep integrity with everything she did. She will be greatly missed by many of her former RSA Canada & Intact colleagues. I wish you both peace and prayers as you take the time to grief such a great loss.

So many fond memories of Melissa, going back 20 plus years. She was admired for her intelligence, patience and determination. “Meliss” and I rode the eastbound subway home together and would talk the entire ride home. The ride felt like 5 minutes sometimes. I will cherish the routine and mundane times with her. There’s a heaviness in my heart today. She is missed. Wally and Elise, please know, my thoughts are with you today, and in the coming days and years.

Wally, Elise and family, my deepest condolences for your loss. It is heartbreaking that Melissa had left us and I am sure it is the same for her to leave her family and loved ones behind.
Melissa and I worked together for a long time. I am grateful to have worked for her, she was a great boss and mentor. And she was the most hard-working person I know as I always joked with her if she ever slept.
Elise, please remember how much your mommy loves you. I will always remember the smile she had on her face when she talked about you and those cute lunch boxes she made for you.
My prayers are with you and your family.

Wally, Elise and Family, my deepest condolences for your loss.
Melissa and I worked together for many years at RSA. She will be greatly missed! The time we had ‘socializing’ was spent on solving work problems or talking about family and sharing photos. She loved being a mom and was so proud of you Elise.
I enjoyed working with Melissa very much, she was a force to be reckoned with, in a positive way. She knew what she wanted, and she pushed forward to achieve her goal, working side by side you every step of the way.

So very sorry to hear about Melissa. I knew Melissa from RSA and I actually filled in for her while she was on maternity leave. I know that she cherished her daughter, Elise, and that she loved spending time with her. Wally, I’ve heard that you did a wonderful job of keeping things going while Melissa was sick. Both you and Elise are in thoughts and prayers.

What I will remember most about Melissa is how caring she was and always looking out for everyone ahead of herself.
But also she was the most determined and kick-a** person I ever met. She was a force to be reckoned with and always looked to do what is right even if it wasn’t easy. A fighter to the end.
Elise you were the light of your mother’s life. Please never doubt her love for you. She loved being your mom.
Peace, love and my condolences to her dear Wally, Elise and family.

Q: What 3 words best describe Melissa and why?
A: 1. Intelligent - Her level and depth of insurance knowledge was second to none.
2. Confident - She was intimidating when I first met her in 2015 - but that was due to her high level of knowledge and confidence that I admired, but did not yet have (nor will I ever know as much as she does - she was amazing in her field).
3. Generous - she was constantly willing to share that knowledge - we were so blessed to have her at RSA and I am sorry the folks in our new Intact work family didn't have the time with her that some of us did. She was a gift. Thank you Melissa for working and sharing with us.

Wally, Elise and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. It’s overwhelming to lose your spouse or mother at such young ages. Melissa and I worked together for many years and it was pure joy as Melissa was so very smart, dedicated and independent. She loved the work, so much so that she wanted to know everything that was being worked on and got upset if she wasn’t in the know. That was Melissa.
When I retired I missed not seeing and talking to Melissa every day. However, over the years we have kept in touch and got together for lunches and to celebrate special occasions. Melissa was an amazing, wonderful person and I feel fortunate to have known her. I will miss her dearly.

Over the years we got busy in our lives with work and family. We made sure to connect as a group annually to have dinner or brunch together, usually in the fall as it was close to all our birthdays. One of our favourite places to gather was The Water St. Cooker in Burlington. They put on a great buffet brunch. The views were stunning and let's not forget the mimosas... yummy! What was more stunning was that we remained so very close in heart for more than 30 years.

Melissa was one of my beautiful bridesmaids and her husband Wally was a groomsman. These are some photos from that day. I particularly love the one of her dancing with my dad. My parents always loved Melissa and felt she was a good friend with a good head on her shoulders.

My first apartment was with Melissa. She lived in North York and when I decided to leave home she suggested I move in with her as her roommate was moving out. It was a great little apartment in North York. I remember she told me I was not allowed to buy snacks and leave them around as she was trying to stay away from snacks...lol.
Our friend Sara was getting married and we planned a wedding shower for her and hosted it at our place. In the photos, this is Melissa and Cindy just being silly and the 3 of us as at Sara's wedding.

Q: How did you meet Melissa?
A: One of my earlier memories of Melissa was from school. Melissa was given the responsibility of managing the budget for a school event (the teachers knew she was the most responsible). She gave me a task to purchase an item and told me not to spend more than a specific amount. I went over budget and when I reported back to Melissa she smiled and told me she knew I wouldn’t stay within the amount allotted so she had told me I had less to spend than I really did. Smart girl I thought! Melissa was dependable, reliable and one of the most caring people I’ve ever met. Even when she was sick and feeling unwell she never stopped offering support to others. Melissa loved her family fiercely and her precious daughter was her joy. Melissa will be greatly missed but we will keep her close to our hearts with our memories and one day we will meet again. Rest in peace Swiss.

Wally & Elise, I'm so very sorry to hear of your beautiful wife and mom's passing. I'm a co-worker of Melissa's and I'll always remember how fondly she spoke of her family....it was very clear how much she loved you. She was a mentor of mine....I knew that if I needed anything, Melissa was always available to help and would do that at the drop of a dime. She'll be greatly missed at work and it'll be hard to fill her shoes. I hope you take comfort in the days, weeks and months ahead of all the cherished memories and moments you shared.
