Memories of Tom
Realizing we had missed a whole topo map while paddling the North Channel from Spragg to White Fish Falls. A few years later lounging under a tarp reading, eating, baking a cake and telling lies while windbound on the south shore of Manitoulin Island. A few days later I watched you leaning into the wind as we struggled to reach shore as the wind and waves picked up. The many kilometers we put on biking at Cawaja brought us to a mini grow-op. I saw the fear in your eyes as we laughed at jokes that only two old stoned mt bikers could understand. I remember the gunnel to gunnel grin on your face behind the wheel of "Vis" ( Witek's boat) while surfing (well, maybe just sailing fast ) the waves of the Chesapeake Bay before a following wind.
Some day these and many more memories will put a smile on my face, now there are only tears
Goodbye Old Friend.

Somewhere I read “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” Tom clearly chose well as indicated by the quality of his friends who surround him, of the love shown by his family for him, and particularly by the love, patience and devotion he and Anka share.
Our family histories are intertwined and, while referred to as his cousin, to me Tom was that big brother I always looked up to. He may not have ever realized how much he taught me but I know I owe him a lot. Even in his last months and days, he taught me about peace and serenity. I have to stop here as I am tearing up with memories.
Thank you Tom!

Wujek Tomek, a good, kind hearted, wise man whose opinion you respected. He had a great sense of humor and his chuckle always made you smile. His stories drew you in and you intently wanted to hear more. He lived an amazing life full of travelling, sailing, skiing, snorkeling, gardening, meditating, yoga, hiking, kayaking, wind surfing…(I could go on and on here – Anka and Tom had so many great activities and hobbies), and spending time with his love Cioca Ania.
Wujek Tomek, we all miss you so much! We have always looked up to you (literally and figuratively), and now we will just look up a little higher, past the stars, and we will see you smiling back at us. We love you. Rest in Peace.

I only met Tom and Anke a few years ago through yoga. Everyone in the community loved seeing the pair come to class together, a wonderful example of love and support we all aspired to. They shared their wisdom and directed me toward a path I most likely would not have taken without their shared wisdom. Always kind, intelligent and relevant, truly one of a kind, his presence is sincerely and whole heartedly missed.

The photo from Mary Johnston could easily have come from our collection of “the cottage” pics. For there is the circular table, the remains of Sunday’s Eggstravaganza, replete with all things organic, superb conversation and laughter.
And there are Tom and Anka, their “lean-in pose”, a timeless gesture that beautifully illustrates their affinity and love.
It is difficult to reconcile the physical loss of this always witty, ever gracious, handsome man whose chuckle was infectious and appetite for life enormous. His passing will be felt deeply, his spirit will remain.

Tomek was true & reliable as a friend and mentor to many of us. His character was based on high moral standards instilled by his loving parents. He was a rock to many of us, full of life smarts and great sense of humor. Tom will always stay in our memories as wonderful human being, always sincere and loving husband to Anka and great uncle Tom to our children. He will be missed.

I was lucky enough to spend a few magical days at Tom and Anka's cottage last year. Roby and I and two of our sons were made so welcome. My memory of Tom and Anka is of a couple so full of life, so in tune with each other and the joys of life. Tom was always laughing and smiling. My heart goes out to you Anka for the loss of your wonderful husband.

I first met Tom and Anka at a class given by osteopath, Guy Voyer and immediately became friends with both of them. What struck me and will endure with me is Tom’s beautiful love and consideration for Anka and his unquenchable thirst to explore and learn about the many facets of life. He was a gentle and kind man and his beautiful spirit is most dearly missed. My condolences to Anka and his close family and friends.

A story of love: Tom and Anka were one of the most in synch, loving and dedicated relationships I’ve seen; together, I think they inspired many by their marriage. We have lost one half of this amazing duo. Our hearts are so heavy and sad with the recent loss of Tom to cancer - he was a gentleman, a sportsman, a curious man, a fun man, a family man, a man who liked scotch and windsurfing (!!), a man who was one with nature ... and SUCH a GOOD man and friend. He’s now one of the most beautiful stars in the sky. His sparkle, wit and warm presence will remain in our hearts, as we miss him dearly. Anka posted and included a picture of the two of them that Tom carried in his wallet for over 30 years. I love the way they are looking at each other... it is all about love, life, and being ready for more. As Anka now carries on this earth without Tom, I know I will want to keep hearing of and sharing more stories about Tom. We will keep celebrating and enjoying Tom. And we will keep on supporting, celebrating and enjoying life with Anka... as I imagine this would be Tom’s #1 request of us.

Tom was a member of the De La Salle Oaklands 1966 cohort. He was an active participant of many school activities including school football team and volleyball. Over the years he was a stalwart member and treasurer for our class reunions. Tom will be missed by our class. May he rest in peace.
Here is what he wrote about himself for our 50th reunion in 2016:
Haunted by Brother Michaels lament, “knowledge comes but wisdom lingers”, Tom proceeded from Del’s 13A to grades 14-19 at UofT & York, and in the process, snagged a BA, MBA & CA. After several decades in various audit & accounting adventures, he allowed himself a year off & never went back to a real job. Currently, he identifies as a recovering accountant and works with his lovely wife Anka in her photography business as a general dogsbody & digital photography drudge. He continues to serve on several community boards & committees.
Tom has developed an obsessive liking for pruning trees & shrubs and this year is developing a taste for pulling out stumps, which he considers a more satisfying activity than playing golf.
The pursuit of the elusive wisdom continues, as does the quest for what he will do when he grows up.
