It was a year ago today when Barbara left us.
She was a sweet, loving and caring person. I was very fortunate to have her as my wife for 49 years. I miss her.
I miss her smiles, her humour and her hugs.
I miss my short commutes to her home every day in the last few months when she was with us. She would act pleasantly surprised when she saw me and Princess walking in.
I miss the little things that she did like demanding to go to the parking lot to see our car and wanting to buy me a new car.
I miss watching her enjoying her glass of ginger ale and a little cup of ice cream.
She was so adorable. I miss her.
Despite her numerous chronic illnesses, she managed to stay positive and enjoyed her life. She has many wonderful friends, especially in Manitoba where she was born and raised.
My fond memory of her will bring everlasting joy to my life.

Barbara was always very proud to share photos of her beautiful family and her adorable dog, Princess. She was very kind when we visited her in Toronto and we laughed a lot together. We will miss her warmth and her smiles.

Barbara and I were close friends in High School. We spent most of our teenage time together including summer holidays. She was a beautiful, zany and fun-loving person to be with. I was lucky to spend time with her, her brother Mathew and her mom Doreen at the beach and at various cottage locations. Her Dad always made his chicken noodle soup for me on my school lunch hours at her house. Her and I were always doing crazy stuff like sleeping in flooded tents, keeping the campground awake all night and scaring Doreen in the dark in the forest, and listening for Mathew’s favorite “Count Dracula coming to get us” and taking rides on motorcycles.
I remember visiting her at the hospital the day her son Jason was born. Her family life got progressively more complicated and challenging. I invited her to a party at the Green Giant house to meet my new University friends and there she met Steve. She caught the bouquet at my sister’s wedding and a few years later married Steve. My husband and I were both honored to be in her wedding party and my parents were at her wedding.
After meeting Steve and marrying they settled into being a couple, Mai-Ling was born, and shortly after they moved away. Barb was always an excellent friend always keeping in touch with phone calls, emails, kind wishes, and pictures, and sending me beautiful pottery, but we did not get many opportunities to see each other again. A couple of brief visits in Winnipeg, Edmonton, and in Grand Prairie.
Fortunately, Barb, Steve and Princess were able to stay with us at our house and revisit friends in Winnipeg on a couple of occasions, when we were all retired. It was excellent to reconnect.
It seems unreal that she can be gone. She was a truly beautiful woman, and it was an honor to have her as a friend.
Our thoughts are with you, Steve, Mai-Ling and Pete (and Princess)
In Sympathy

Knowing Barbara made me a better person
Barbara felt the sting of judgment but did not judge. She was inclusive before it was a "thing".
She was compassionate - caring for animals and gardens, her beautiful orchids, her interest in other cultures.
She was intelligent and creative. I considered her one of the most artistic and creative people I know.
She was generous of spirit: I have very happy memories of our "pottery" adventures together. She happily coached me how to do my first firing in my first kiln. Also a wonderful memory was of building with the expert assistance of Steve, a sawdust kiln on the Lee acreage in Ardrossan. What fun we had that day and the firing worked out well to boot!
She was loyal to friends and loved her family fiercely.
I feel privileged to have been called her friend.
A quotation by Kahil Gibran has been comforting to me previously and possibly will be once again:
"And when the Earth shall claim your limbs -then shall you truly dance" Thank you Barbara for all you have given me my friend
Rest in Peace Pat

Linh Do and I fondly remember a day when we visited you both in Sechelt BC. The four of us were walking and chatting. I think we had stopped to pick up fries and hamburgers along the way. We came upon several geese and ducks in a pond. BraBra (as my young Son Raymond called her), tossed some fries to the ducks. Linh and I (quietly) laughed because we knew firsthand; that geese and ducks don't much like fries. BraBra was nonplused or untroubled by doing so. That was her - caring for some small animals in her own way. We miss you BraBra.

We will remember Barbsra as a vibrant individual with substanial energy to purse her interests. As mentioned that vibrancy was disrupted by her chronic diseases and those were difficult times for her and Steve to endure. We were welcomed with open arms when we visited and we could participate in substantial topics that Barbara may well have had an opinion. The time has come for peace and good memories if an honest person. Blessings. Dennis an EJ

Tribute to Barbara Lee (Part 1) - - -
Barbara’s father and grandparents were immigrated from Eastern Europe. She grew up with her brother in Winnipeg. After graduating from Garden City Collegiate, she entered the business world and was blessed with the birth to her son Jason in 1969. and daughter Mai-Ling in 1975. Barbara and I were in 1972 and lived in Winnipeg until 1976. She gave birth to our daughter in 1975. Pursuant to my career, we lived in Alberta and B. C. until 2015 when we moved to Toronto to be closer to our daughter Mai-Ling and her husband Pete Dydo. Shortly after the passing of both of her parents, tragedy struck in 1986 when our son Jason was killed in a traffic accident in Sherwood Park, Alberta. We were both devastated. While struggling with bipolar disorder, she had tremendous inner strength to carry on and raise our children into adulthood and be productive members in society. She was particularly proud of her daughter Mai-Ling who established a successful career in Toronto as a digital special effects professional in the movie industry. Tragedy unfortunately struck again in 2020 when her younger brother Matthew lost his battle with cancer. Barbara was once again devastated. Despite numerous disruptions to her life, she was a great mother, she enjoyed life when she could, she loved her friends and family, and particularly her dog Princess. She was well liked by her friends and everyone she met.

Notwithstanding the trials and tribulations of her chronic diseases, Barbara loved her hobbies which included pottery, painting, hobby farming, compiling photos albums, and particularly sharing her albums on Facebook.
She enjoyed travelling on cruise ships and trips to warmer regions like Mexico and Arizona, visiting friends. She enjoyed meeting the native people, their culture and cuisines.
She loved animals and she had a passion for gorillas. She enjoyed the wildlife in the green space adjacent to our home in Sechelt. Most of all, she just loved her dog Princess.
She had 14 wonderful years in Sechelt B.C. when she pursued her hobbies, lived close to nature and was relatively healthy.

Tribute to Barbara Lee (Part 3)

On top of the various chronic diseases, dementia symptoms began to appear some 12 years ago. Barbara was cognizant of the implications but she was strong enough not to be daunted by what she could not control. She put her faith in the medical profession and services available in B.C. and Toronto. Sadly, her dementia progressed rapidly in recent years.
We were fortunate to be able to place her in the Lakeshore Long Term Care Home in May 2021 after another bout with bipolar disorder in March 2021. She tolerated the notion of having to leave her home setting with Princess always by her side but did not take long for her to adapt to her new home where staff were always gentle, caring and respectful. She even treated some of them as family members.
During her six and a half months tenure at the Lakeshore Lodge, she endured her illness, one day at a time. I visited her daily and often with Mai-Ling and Pete when available. Covid-19 did not make life easy for her but she had the strength to make the best out of the situation, as always. Fortunately, as Covid-19 restrictions eased, I was able to bring Princess to visit her everyday.
Despite the steady deterioration, she did not experience any pain and suffering even to her final days. She was able to, and often did, express her love for me and Mai-Ling.
What a strong, wonderful and beautiful person she was! I am proud to have had her as my wife and mother of our children for 49 years. I wish I can have another 49 years with her.
