Dear David, Stephen, Philip, Tim and Tom,
What a lovely tribute to your mom on Sunday. It was really wonderful to see all of you.
I met Rowena at church, of course. I was quite young, probably under 10 years old. I never spent significant time with her, other than our family get-togethers, until she happened to be teaching Sunday school one year for kids in my age group. Ours was a class of young teen girls, and I remember we were very engaged with her teaching style, and her interpretation and analysis of scripture. One Sunday, Rowena had us all over for to the house (I don’t remember why, perhaps….for fun?!). We did some activities and had lunch. There was SO MUCH FOOD! Clearly, she was used to much bigger appetites than ours! It was a great deal of fun and very special.
I also had occasion to seek out her advice on something that was troubling me around the same time. She set aside time for me, listened carefully and asked questions. Rowena responded is a serious and thoughtful way, and sent me off feeling much relieved and happy.
Our lives were better for having known her.
Offering all of you my sincere condolences, and hoping you are being gentle with yourselves.
Warmest regards,
Gwen Cooper
