Dear David, Stephen, Philip, Tim and Tom, What a lovely tribute to your mom on Sunday. It was really wonderful to see all of you. I met Rowena at church, of course. I was quite young, probably under 10 years old. I never spent significant time with her, other than our family get-togethers, until she happened to be teaching Sunday school one year for kids in my age group. Ours was a class of young teen girls, and I remember we were very engaged with her teaching style, and her interpretation and analysis of scripture. One Sunday, Rowena had us all over for to the house (I don’t remember why, perhaps….for fun?!). We did some activities and had lunch. There was SO MUCH FOOD! Clearly, she was used to much bigger appetites than ours! It was a great deal of fun and very special. I also had occasion to seek out her advice on something that was troubling me around the same time. She set aside time for me, listened carefully and asked questions. Rowena responded is a serious and thoughtful way, and sent me off feeling much relieved and happy. Our lives were better for having known her. Growing up, as a friend of David’s, to me Mrs. V.S. always seemed like the fun mom. Dave and I were just kids, maybe young teenagers, looking for something new to do on a summer afternoon. Mrs. V.S. had an idea: "Why don't you pack a lunch and cycle across the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, over the St. Lawrence River to St. Helen's Island, have a picnic and a swim at the public pool, then cycle back here to St Lambert?" This plan was way out my comfort zone, to cycle out of the suburbs towards the city on our own (to say nothing of that of my parents!) But Mrs. V.S. thought it would be fun, Mom said well okay, we did it and we had a great time. I still cycle to the Island with a picnic lunch from time to time. I've never forgotten how Mrs. V.S. helped expand my horizons as a youngster and, with that delightful twinkle in her eye, showed me how empowering it can be to think outside the box.

Dear David, Stephen, Tim, Philip, and Tom, Our family mourns your loss and ours. We also rejoice in knowing of her strong Christian faith and her assurance of eternal life, and we celebrate her exemplary life and legacy. We loved her dearly, and we share fond memories that go back to Rowena’s high school years and Arthur’s courtship days. We send our sincere condolences and prayers at this time. Q: How did you meet Rowena? A: I was very sad to hear of Rowena's passing. My deepest sympathies to all of Rowena's family. Rowena was my former sister-in-law. Our lives spanned a period of sixty four years. We always kept in touch and were very close .My sister Lila and I had the pleasure of having lunch with Rowena at her new residence. We had a wonderful afternoon catching up and touring the facilities and the grounds. She always commented how close the shopping and the stores were in the area. She enjoyed their many lectures, activities and Church services. I will sorely miss my dearest friend. Love Terry
